A picture to smudge #1

Postby Fred on Tue Mar 18, 2008 5:42 am

Hello all, Lastnite I did a quick shot of a running 2 yr old. I like to use natural light for this type work but it was late and this was not my best in lighting. I was not gonna post but thought it would be a good test to see how bad an exposure we could get away with.
I started one just to see and on mine I didn't add any sharpness cause I thought the grain and noise in the image might be enough to add to the smudge effect. You might want to experiment.
Also there were some colors that need to be desaturated.

Here is the link where I will keep the image's I post here. I might also post them on DPreview in the retouch forum.

http://www.pbase.com/fredjamesphotography/freds_cafe

In case you don't know, you click on the image then click on the bottom where it says original and once image comes up completly you can right click and save to your PC.

This might not be the best one to smudge but at least it can give us a test on a image that was not the best in exposure.

The first image is just a crop of the one of him sitting.

Thanks and hope you enjoy, Fred

Wonderful pictures Fred, I'm tempted to have a smudge myself, although I'm not having as much success with people as with animals. ( Bit like real life I suppose :D )

Ronnie did you click on the original link on the bottom of picture? that will give you a bigger image. If not this one (unless you did) keep that in mind for others I might post. Lost great though. My wife thought it was really cute and his look goes good with the cloudy type backdrop.

Thanks Ronnie

Hi Palms: Nice to see you here. I like your version very much. It's blended nicely and quite painterly.

If you go to the Digital Art Academy website, you can mark your calendar for the next available class Scott teaches.

Ah, Palms.......you added an interesting filter here. Adds a certain softness.

BTW, I forgot to give you the link to DAA: http://www.digitalartacademy.com/

Thank you all for your kind words
The background was done using the ahb
I used a Orton effect technique on the second ( a tip i picked up from someone who uses it on her portraits )
