My first painting here

Postby mikajomc on Mon Jun 16, 2008 10:13 am

Hello-
I have been a member here for a little while, but I only just finished Scott's class. So this is my first painting I've posted here.
I originally did this on another forum, but since I smudged it I wanted to post here as well.
The original photo is Danny Raphael's.
C&C welcome.

Mika, what a start.. The hair looks great, all the different colour's in there make it very good.
Also the skin and the way you've applied the texture is just right..
Such a great smudge.
If.... and i do mean just a small if i was to pick at something it would be to lighten the eyes just a little but on the other hand it could be my moniter.

Mika you did excellent!. Has a certain look of a real painting and hints of old world. IOf this was Blue Boy it would have similar strokes. Or something like that type painting.
You are on your way to some great post. One things to do now is look at it again and take what others say and see if there's anywhere you feel you can make even better. Sometimes it takes another go at it to give it that extra amount of quality. not that this needs it but just something to remember when you paint. Do the painting then take a day or two break and look at it when you have some time with a nice glass of wine and see if all is what you want. If at that time it is then you are good to go.

I have done images and then a couple days later looked and thought the eyes were too bright or maybe too dark. Again not that this needs it just somethi8ng to try with each painting you do.

Great and keep them coming.

Hi Jordan,
I'm glad you've joined in :D I think you did an amazing job with this smudge! It really looks like an oil painting. I don't know that I would change a thing, although I get what Fred is saying. So many times I'll post something and when I look at it again I'll see something that I could improve upon. I think that little bit of extra discipline makes a huge a difference. That being said you really did a great job here! Can't wait to see more of your work :D
Blessings,
Eda

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone.

Ronnie- the eyes were pretty dark in the original photo, I was afraid I'd already lightened them too much, but maybe I should look again.

Fred & Eda- I know exactly what you mean about coming back to a painting. Especially after I get my kids to bed and its quiet, suddenly my paintings look so different! :)

Mika im the same with eyes, i feel ive lightend them and when i post others will say they're not bright enough.
Its all a learning curve for us all but like i said i really like this one.
The more i look the better it looks..
