The Gift...

Postby Scott Deardorff on Sun Mar 30, 2008 2:25 pm

A little out-of-season perhaps, but this was done with the smudge tool, of course, based on Fred James' original image and concept. Fred, can't wait to see what you come up with next!

By the way, great to see what everyone's been working on. You guys are doing great!

This is superb Scott! The dog's eyes and "expression" are priceless and the lighting exquisite. The whole painting has such a gentle feel to it...if this is not snapped up and used as a Christmas card and grace everyones home then there's something wrong somewhere. Simply magical!

Truly a masterpiece and a classic in the making, Scott. The two of you make quite a team. Maybe you can do a series of them and perhaps get them on the market somewhere by Christmastime.

Holy Cow Scott!!! This is marvelous. You are truly an artist.
The things that you have changed or otherwise enhanced have really made this painting great. For instance...Santa's skin tone, the addition of his wedding ring, the dog bone, Santa's belt buckle, the dogs collar, the front of the box, color correction on the suit, and those are only the things I have noticed.
Thanks for posting this, you keep me inspired.

Whining...I want to do it like that. Maybe with more practice.

That's funny that you mention the ring Jo. It jumped out at me too, only I hadn't looked at the original photo, so I didn't know that Scott had added it.
Fred- you captured the perfect look on that dog's face!
Scott- STUNNING!

Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate all of your nice comments. This one was really fun to work on. You guys know how much I love details, and there were a lot of fun little details to play with in this one. Always nice to start out with a great idea and image (thanks to Fred for both of those).

Scott, This shot shows so much of your talents . It's mind blowing what you can do. I mentioned in our class how we can all try to be like you and even if we practiced 10 hours a day for the next 2 years to try and do a image like you and if we finally get to do one close to your talents , by that time you will be 2 years ahead too . I can't imagine what you will be doing then. Just amazing!

Thanks again for such a incredible work of art.
