Painting landscapes..

I rarely see landscapes painted using the smudge technique. Is that because it is too difficult to render detailed elements like leaves using any of a variety of smudge brushes. If anyone paints landscapes, I would be interested to know what brushes you use to paint the detailed elements in a landscape photograph.

I am posting two images here which I painted this afternoon, but consider to be of less than excellent quality. I am not sure if the lack of quality can be traced to my lack of patience, or to the fact that I didn't use the correct brushes to really achieve the painterly effect.
The B&W version is more appealing to me probably because it hides some of the flaws that might be more easily seen in the colored version.

No i dont know of anyone who smudges landscapes, there was someone a long long time ago on dpr ( sorry cannot remember the name for a search) their work was excellent but that is the only one and then it was only a couple of pieces
I presume it is the amount of detail and patience needed i dont think it is brush related
Why not find a photo ( with not too much detail :) ) and post and see what members can come up with or not, :)

Thanks, palms..
There are probably many people who submit their work to this forum who would be capable of excellent work. However, I am not certain that I want to request their participation in a project that they might not have any real interest in pursuing...
However, if there is anyone who has previously smudge painted a landscape and wishes to display it, I would be most interested in viewing their work. I would also be most appreciative of any comments they would offer concerning techniques and brushes they used to achieve the painterly look.
